You've been added to the INXS e-mail list...the INXS list is a simple unmoderated mail reflector...no digest format is in the works, as the traffic rarely warrants it, and I don't really have the time to deal with setting one up. There really isn't an FAQ as such, but there are a few guidelines that I ask people to follow: 1) Please be respectful of other peoples' ideas, opinions, lifestyles, etc... The point of this forum is to allow people with a common interest exchange information in a friendly, casual atmosphere. Everyone has something to offer, so anyone that wants to post, as long as it's more or less relevant to the list topic, should be able to without fear of getting flamed. 2) Try not to unnecessarily quote other people's posts...the volume on here isn't that great that people can't remember what was said. If you do need to use their text to follow-up or whatever, make sure you edit out ALL of their mail headers and stuff, and only use the lines that are necessary... reposting 40 lines to add a two-line comment on the end is very annoying. 3) It is general netiquette to not have a signature file that is more than four lines long...your ASCII rendition of the Mona Lisa may very well be a work of fine art, but after seeing it half a dozen times in a week, it starts to get old, not to mention wasting bandwidth. 4) ALL administrative stuff (subscribes, unsubscribes, address changes, etc.) go to the admin address: inxs-list-request@iastate.edu...please keep in mind that: a) I do try to have a life of some sorts, so don't get antsy if requests aren't fulfilled instantaneously b) even when I don't, I generally have boatloads of homework to do c) the system that controls mailing lists here takes up to 8 hours to process requests from nobody users like me, so even if I process your message as soon as I get it, it will take some time d) try to send requests either from or containing the same address that you subscribed from so I don't have to mess around with grep and stuff to figure out who you are 5) Neil Kothari had the original idea for this list, and he does a great job of handling surveys and stuff, as well as keeping the current tour list up to date...his address is nak6@columbia.edu, or send to the admin address and he'll see it too. 6) I do keep all the messages sent to the list (as of August 25, 1993), and they, along with other cool INXS stuff, are archived on my anymous ftp site. The site is isum.iastate.edu, login as 'anonymous.jlbraddy' and use your e-mail address as your password. The README files should be helpful if you have any questions. All comments, ideas, etc. are welcome...this list is here for you to use, not for me to control...have fun! They've parted ways with their record company, their last two albums have been commercial disappointments, and their current single (one of two new tracks on the band's just released Greatest Hits album) faces an uphill battle at radio. Facts, however, can be deceiving, and neither frontman Michael Hutchence nor guitarist/sax player Kirk Pengilly seem the least bit perturbed about them, anyway. "I think it's all sort of ass backward, to be honest," a be-stubbled Hutchence is saying yesterday in a Toronto hotel room. "We look at it as, we would lose fans if we didn't continue to change. Or at least," he laughs, "the right kind of fans." "I mean, we've always tried to do new things. It just so happens that our highest selling record (1987's Kick) - by a couple of million - was just another record we made that happened to become really popular." "It's a very odd thing, popularity," sighs Hutchence. "The stars line up and something happens out there - I don't know what it is - and everybody thinks they gotta get your record. Or at least a couple million more that the one before or the one after." For now, Hutchence and Pengilly seems genuinely happy to be out of the spotlight. "We haven't stopped since recording X, four years ago," says Pengilly. "So we're going to have Christmas and the first couple months of the new year off and start recording around March or April." In the meantime, there's the rock-solid new single, The Strangest Party (These Are The Times), begun for last year's Full Moon, Dirty Hearts sessions and completed for inclusion on The Greatest Hits. "Lyrically, it's a song about attempting to have a tomorrow," explains Hutchence. "We have so much information, we have to bear a lot of the burden of the knowledge of what goes on in the world today." Are you saying it was easier to live, say, 20 years ago? "Yes!," exclaims Hutchence. "I mean, there were the same things going on, we just didn't know about them. "It's interesting, isn't it? I think causes, in fact, were simpler and nobler. We had big bad wolves to be the whipping boys, especially in the United States. They had those `damn Commies' to whip the population into a frenzy over." But does that mean we're all doomed to be less happy? "I don't know," says Hutchence. "I think (information) is good, but you feel a bit impotent, too. We can mistake knowledge for actually doing something, because if everyone knows about something, we assume someone must be doing something about it." Then again, the facts and the truth can be two very different things, can't they? Pengilly smiles. "Absolutely." (Insert horrible looking of Hutchence and Pengilly here. Yet another album? Don't get me wrong or anything... I'm not about to complain but another album already? They have released X in 90, LBL in 91, WTWYA in 92, FMDH in 93, and GH in 94.... Do you all remember when in an interview with T Farriss, he said that the band was not happy that they didn't have many albums, etc out? He said (this is from several years ago), that we should all watch for INXS to really start churning work out... I guess he was telling the truth! I had a thought - INXS should *really* do another WTWYA type album... (no... no bias here...) > (Insert horrible looking of Hutchence and Pengilly here. The first version I bought in Sydney a couple of weeks before the FMODH album was available. They were playing the Gift on the radio a lot and I couldn't wait. Anyways, the songs on it are: 1) The Gift 2) Need You Tonight 3) Kiss the Dirt 4) What You Need 5) Burn for You Damn good selection for a single - more like a mini greatest hits. The second version I bought last summer here in the states and the songs on it are: 1) The Gift 2) Born to Be Wild 3) The Gift (Extended Mix) 4) The Gift (Bonus Beat Mix) 5) Heaven Sent (Live) Hope you can find and buy both of them mate.
