Deni Hines (Kirk's wife) is one of the lead actors in Jesus Christ Superstar, a musical which has just opened in Melbourne, Australia. Anyway, my friend decided if he went down to the opening night, he'd see Kirk. He was right. My friend chatted to Deni and Kirk at the back stage door for a while before she had to go and get ready for opening night. Then Kirk came back down later and asked directions to the nearest bank. My friend offered him a lift and because he knew no-one would believe that Kirk rode in his car, he got him to autograph the car!!! "Dear Jules, thanks for the ride, Kirk (INXS)"!!! Anyway Kirk got their phone numbers and is going out for drinks with them before he leaves Melbourne. He told them that all the Farriss brothers and Garry are in Perth at the moment because the Farriss mother is very ill, about to die so they're all very sad. Apparently none of them know where Michael is (what's new!!) Anyway, just thought you'd be interested. Jane PS. Was the film Dogs In Space (featuring Michael) every released in the US? Does anyone have them? If so, please email them to the list. OR, even if you don't - please make an attempt at all the lyrics, and email your best guess - we can then all try and figure out anything that doesn't quite seem right. These are always really hard but here's my opinions for the moment. 1. X album cover is the best 2. I like the filler between songs. Its different and I don't like the soundless breaks anyways 3. The song I like best is What You Need. It gives it a really good dance feel that you don't get on the regular mix. Makes it sound very sexual. 4. Intro, mmhh, probably The Stairs is the best. 5. Finale is hard. I really like the ending vocals on Disappear I like the fading repetitiveness of it Kelland >From ???@??? I was out buying beer and was looking at the selection when I noticed a tune that I thought I recognized. I listened and lo and behold it was "The Strangest Party". I had not heard it played on any of our local stations so I asked the clerk what station it was. Well it wasn't a local station, but a continuous satellite feed network. Well I had scratched out most of the lyrics when it came out, but never finished them. So when the call came I started putting it together on Valentine's Day. Here are the lyrics and chords of the song as I hear them. Several comments I have. 1. This is a great song. It is far funkier than first listen would lead you to believe. I was not too impressed when it first came out, but now it is one of my favorite songs. (I should say I have probably heard it about 50 times since I started working with it so it clearly has grown alot on me.) 2. I went back and watched the Letterman, and it just blew me away this time. As others stated, I wasn't too impressed when I first say it or the few days after it was aired. But now, to me it is a great live performance. 3. This song has the best, best lead solo of any song I have heard by INXS or any other group of late. Tim starts with a very melodic intro that is followed by Kirk. (I know this from the Letterman performance.) Throughout the lead Gary is playing another tuneful bass lead. At one point three melodies are going. It is just great. I am trying to figure it out --- if anyone has it please post it. I am a novice guitar player, so it will take me a while to go through it note by note. 4. Do I sound over enthused? I am give it a listen (or 50 in a row). Sounds not good. I'd rather change it from a 6th/4th fret position to one half-step lower key in which case no barre is needed, especially if you are novice. So if you use D instead of D-sharp, G instead of G-sharp and A instead of A-sharp, it becomes: D G A e-----2-----3-----0---- B-----3-----0-----2---- G-----2-----0-----2---- D-----0-----0-----2---- A-----0-----2-----0---- E-----X-----3-----0---- Another way to do this is to place a capo on the first fret and then add 1 to each fret number shown above and then you get it back to D-sharp, G-sharp and A-sharp. >From ???@??? Stunning Christensen, 25, lashed out after reading that the INXS frontman spent three steamy nights in a hotel with BIG BREAKFAST presenter PAULA YATES. We most definitely aren't seeing each other at the moment. I haven't talked to him." She added,"I've heard from mutual friends that Michael is seeing Paula Yates. I just remember hearing "The One Thing" for the first time and I instantly knew they were going to be my favorite band. 2ND PLACE - THE SWING "Johnson's Aeroplane" is one of my all-time favorite songs and I just love the keyboards in this one they are very haunting and mysterious and of course Michael's wonderful voice helps too. I like all of the other albums but these two are my all-time favorites. The one album that took me the longest to like is FULL MOON DIRTY HEARTS - It was the only album of theirs that I didn't like on the first listen, It took me about 5 times listening to it until I really liked it. I am very interested in seeing what they are going to do next, I've been a fan since 1983 and that's what I liked most about INXS is that you can always expect something different. I'm posting this response to the entire list because he is making a valid point. Let's keep down on the "what is your favorite xxx" questions, etc. because the amount of posting is getting unusually high. If you have a burning desire to know such info, go to the WWW site, where I keep a full listing of all polls ever conducted on this list. It is a good place for all sorts of info. As for the amount of volume, please don't scared off - it should die back down again... We had a stretch earlier where there would be 2 posts a week (at most), so this is extremely ususual (though nice to see :)). Finally, as for a usenet group, there is none out there, and I honestly don't really see a use for one in the upcoming future. Remember - this high amount of posting is UNUSUAL. And the Pulp Fiction s/track is great!!!! Anyway, I digress. What I know of the video is that it is a "companion" to the Greatest Video Hits compilation from 1990(?), in that it is not just the same stuff over again. It does contain a mini documentary of the X tour, wwith some of the videos from that era (including the Suicide Blonde remix vid) as well as vids from WTWYA, FMDH and I think The Strangest Party is there too. Unfortunately, I can't afford it right now (CD's come B4 videos I'm afraid - even INXS!) and my birthday isn't til October so it could be a while before I know more. --Richy >From ???@??? Some people have to pay for access time, etc. - and don't want to read more "extraneous" email. Therefore, let me once again reiterate - the WWW site I have set up at http://www.columbia.edu/~nak6/inxs.html has answers to all of the questions that I have seen posted of late. For example, "what are your favorite bands besides INXS" is on the listing "POLLS" that is under the INXS-List category. In addition, the question about Helena and Michael has an answer on the "Latest INXS News" category... PLEASE use the WWW site as a reference. If you see something not mentioned or dealt with adequately, by all means - POST AWAY! But please don't post about things that have been done before if you can find the answer on the WWW site. I'm not (really not) trying to be rude, offensive, etc. or discourage postings on the list (because I for one truly love seeing interest in my favorite band!), and I realize that because we don't have an FAQ, it is hard to know what hasn't been discussed before.... But, well, I thought I would remind y'all about the WWW site. (Not to mention that I've done a lot of work in putting it together!) Questions, comments, concerns, flames? - Just send me some email! In Tuesday's Sun, the Bizarre (showbiz) column was devoted to the Brits aftershow party (did you know Blur won a record 4 awards Neil?) and there was an article on Mike and Helena, who were apparently all over each other, as if they were trying to prove to the world that they are still together. A close friend was quoted as saying that Mike had something going with Paula briefly, but it was not that serious. Which leads me on to.......... #2 : INXS on UK TV Here in the UK there used to be a music show called the Tube presented by ..............Paula Yates!! Anyway, they are re-running a Best of the Tube just now, and INXS are appearing next week. (sometime between 1982 and 1987) NME ran an article a few weeks ago when the series was starting, and it included a top ten of Tube moments, one of which (#3 I think) was Michael Hutchence vs. Paula Yates - apparently she was fascinated by Mike's crotch. It was just after this that the thing between them happened. Co-incidence????!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? #3 : INXS music book I finally managed to get an order no. and publisher for this book, although I couldn't get any "official" words to songs (they were all shrink wrapped) Anyway, here is the details : INXS the greatest hits Published by WISE publications Order no. AM92776 2 It has 22 songs on it, from Just Keep Walking through to Deliver Me. Hope this is of use!! That's all for now Later --Richy >From ???@???
