Yesterday, while driving in my car, (of course I had my radio on), the DJ came on and said something that got my attention. He said, "Next, we're going to send a dead body up to find the spirit of Michael Hutchence." I got so angry! I just knew they were going to do some stupid skit/interview type thing where they make fun of his suicide and being dead. Of course, he played 10 commercials and took his time coming back (all the while, I was getting angrier and angrier, thinking how I was going to call the station and complain as soon as I got home). When he came back, he said: "O.K. We found MH's spirit and asked him to sing "What You Need" for us. Here he goes!" Then he played the song. After it was over, he said: "Thanks Michael, come back anytime to sing for us!" I was so relieved, that's all he did. I guess he was TRYING to be funny for Halloween (dead body, spirit, etc.). I wasn't too amused, but it could have been a lot worse. At least MH got his name mentioned and they played INXS. I just thought I would share that with all of you. Enjoy. Anni, As I feared would happen, my inbox is being flooded by fans who are taking your word as gospel. I have double checked the information supplied in this article and have found it to be appallingly inaccurate. You've played up band participation in these events when all that exists is an invitation, not even an RSVP. Though you include "may," the speculation of new music and first appearances cause any reader to gloss over the truth. You're talking about a new album like it's already in the works, when in fact no decisions have been made. You've confused fan-driven events as official. The get together at the Hard Rock after the memorial is a fan organized event. There will be no instruments or celebrity guests - merely a little karaoke and camaraderie. If anyone shows up, it would be Kell, but I wouldn't hold my breath. What hat you pulled 3,000 fans from is not only inaccurate but insulting as well. You make it sound as if INXS has only 3,000 fans worldwide. There is no estimate on the number of people who will attend any of the memorials, and considering that the events are being organized in cyber space only, it will only be a small percentage of INXS' fan base. These aren't publicized events. Also, the Sydney memorial is about the only one happening at the Hard Rock - most of the other fans will be gathering at their local shorelines and elsewhere for candle light vigils. The "benefit concert," as you've dubbed it, has yet to be finalized as anything yet and it most certainly is not being held in conjunction with the Fan Organized Hard Rock gatherings which may or may not take place. Even what you've called it, "the January birthday bash," is a Fan title. An annual event that began last year. The band probably doesn't know what it is. A one second stop at the ROTO pages would clear that up for you. I don't understand why you didn't double check any of these facts with the band's management. A few minutes with Martha Troupe would have sorted it all out for you. I won't even address the rest of your article, because right now, the most important thing is that the information concerning memorials and birthday bashes is corrected and set straight. You're causing a frenzy where there need not be one. This is a highly emotional time for INXS fans and family. To play on it like this is just despicable. I can only hope that this wasn't your intention and that you'll take steps to immediately correct the situation. Your attention to this matter will be greatly appreciated. But just in case, I'm forwarding this letter to Ian and every known INXS mailing list. I am very glad to read that Paula lost custody of her three older girls. While I hate what Bob did to Michael, I believe that it was really Paula's lies that were responsible for the hideous tragedy. I wish I could feel a little more compassion for her but, mainly I wish she had never gotten involved with Michael. I was so knackered, i couldnt get out of bed in the end i forced myself outat 10past and went into the lounge. Switched on the TV, never tear us apart was playing, with pictures of Paula, Tiger, Hutch.. and someone was talking over it. Then they went live to Sidney for an interview with Kelland Hutchence, i was still half asleep (i was up on the net until 5:00am last night!!) and now i cant remember much of the interview, it was about 5minutes long. Basically Kel wanted to make up with Paula and asked her to come to the memorial service, and make friends with the family again. other things.... i bought the swing on CD yesterday as i finally saw it in a shop, i had to go to the City in the end. i noticed that the song writing was a little more than just Andrew and Michael this time. And i noticed that the song 'Love Is What i Say' was written by all six band members and some character named A. Braxton Smith, who is this mysterious person? i also got savage garden, on the basis of to the moon and back, as that is my favourite song this year (ahead of sweetest thing)... but i can see no INXS comparison, its a totally diff style. and i ordered Shabooh Shoobah from http://cdbargains.com for $8.99, i looked at their top100 and noticed that our boys have 3 albums there. (X ($5.99), WTWYA($5.99) and FMDH($4.99) they also have LBL ($4.99) but this isnt in the T100). The past 12 months have been a living nightmare for Kell Hutchence since his rock star son Michael was found dead in a Sydney hotel room. An intensely private man, Kell suddenly found himself having to deal with his grief in the very public glare of the world?s media spotlight, while at the same time dealing with feuding amongst family members over what to do with Michael?s ashes. Kell?s sense of loss has been compounded by an increasingly bitter rift betwee his family abd Paula Yates, the mother of his two-year-old granddaughter, Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily, Michaels only child, whom he evidently adores. He has been deeply upset by recent comments made by Yates in Britain?s OK! Magazine ? and published in Australia by New Idea ? in which she made several hurtful allegations about the Hutchence family, including that Kell had made a lot of money talking about Michael since his death. Kell says: ?I don?t want to fight with Paula but it is very wrong and cruel of her to say things that are inaccurate. I don?t want to get into any bunfights. I have had enough of the acrimony that has gone on in the family, but she has made a lot of extravagant claims which are so wrong and so unfair.? Kell stresses that any money he has received from giving interviews about Michael ? he did not ask for any payment, nor is he receiving any for this one - has been put towards building a memorial as a tribute to Michael and has been used to help other family members. While Kell is reluctant to criticise Paula publicly for fear of driving a futher wedge ;between them, it has been heartbreaking for him to see her lurch from one headline-grabbing incident to the next, which most recently included being thrown out of a rehabilitation clinic for having an affair with a former herion addict, Kinglsey O?Keke, with Tiger Lily in tow. Indeed when the details of her affair with O?Keke eerged, Kell became so concerned about Tiger Lily?s welfare that he sought temporary custody of the child while she was on holiday in Australia with Paula?s close friend, Belinda Brewin, in hope of looking after Tiger for a couple of months while Paula sorted herself out. He explains: ?I had no plan whatsoever in my mind to do anything like this until I heard that Paula had got kicked out of the clinic. I am not a judgemental type at all but I got a bit furious about this. It doesn?t impress me at all, it pushed me right to the edge. I really believe that any child is better off with its mother, but in certain circumstances that probably doesn?t apply and I felt that this was one of those circumstances where I think Michael would have liked me to step in. I just felt what is going to happen to this darling girl, how is she going to grow up?? Kell says he had planned to create a nursery in the Sydney apartment where he and his wife Susie live and hire a live-in nurse to look after Tiger and improve her diet and sleeping habits for two or three months until Paula was again well enough to look after her. However, he dropped his bid for temporary care of Tiger when the Australian Federal Police rang to tell him that Tiger and Belinda and her children were sitting on an aircraft at Sydney Airport and that he had to make an instant decision whether to allow them to leave the country. ?I was devastated. I didn?t know what to do. It was a terrible decision to make,? he says. ?Weighing the pros and cons quickly in my mind, I just couldn?t bring myself to pull them all off the plane and in the end I said very reluctantly ?let them go?.? His actions to help Tiger and Paula have been misconstrued. ?I only did what I did in the hope of helping the whole situation, but it has been taken the wrong way and I don?t know why. I just felt that Paula was not really in a mental state yet to be a fit mother.? It was the last time he saw Tiger Lily and does not know when he will see her again. He has managed to speak to speak to Paula only once since March because she does not return his phone calls, nor has she acknowledged the presents or cards he and Susie have sent Tiger. He says sadly: ?I do not have any contact with Paula. Latters, cards, gifts to Tiger all go unanswered. It is very upsetting. It is hard to get used to.? While he has not renewed his attempt to seek temporary custody of Tiger, it seems possible that he may yet change his mind in the light of a British court decision to deny Paula custody of her three children from her marriage to Bob Geldof, a verdict which suggests she is regarded as being a fit mother. Kell quite evidently adores Tiger, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Michael, and would love a chance to be a proper grandfather to the child whom he calls ?my little Michael?. ?I think she has been through a terrible time for a little kid. There is confusion in her mind. She is an extremely bright and happy girl, she giggles and laughs and in her lighter moments she is really quite a character. I used to chase her around the house, we?d play hide and seek and we would have so much fun. But in her more serious moments she looks quite sad. ?I don?t want Paula to think that I?m being judgemental or that I know better than she does. All I am saying is ?Paula, please look after that little treasure because that is my son?s baby?.? Kell has tried to deal with his devastating grief by keeping extremely busy ? since Michaels death, he has been deluged with thousands of letters, photos and videos from INXS fans all over the world and has personally replied to more than 500 of them so far. He has also been active in campaigning against the East Circular Quay development taking place close to Sydney Opera House. However the stress of the past year has clearly taken its toll. Although Kell refuses to give in to the vagaries of old age ? ?I never admit to being more than 65?, he says with a smile ? having to deal with his grief in such a public way has extracted a high price. In April, he was rushed to hospital with severe bronchial asthma , had to undergo an unexpected heart bypass and subsequently contracted bronchial pneumonmia, all of which put him out of action for three months. He thinks that in many ways dealing with the first anniversary of Michael?s death early this month is going to be harder to bear than when he died. ?I think I?ll feel sadder on that day than the actual day he passed away.? He adds: ?It has been terrible really. You feel as though you are living in a nughtmare. It has been so hard to deal with it. I just cant face some of it still. I have my crying moments when I look at photographs of Michael. It breaks my heart every time I look him in the eyes. I suppose I have been kidding myself that he?s out on a tour and he?s coming back. But he?s not coming back.? His dearest with is for the Hutchence family and Paula to reconcile their differences and to be reunited as one family unit. He has written personally to Paula and every member of the Hutchence family inviting them to share in a memorial service for Michael to be held in Sydney on the anniversary of his death , November 22. He says: ?Nothing would make me happier if all the parties came to Michaels memorial service. I just hate all this fighting. I don?t know why it should be this way. I just want Paula to feel that she is part of our family ? after all, my darling son Michael is the father of her child. I just want Paula to know that the Hutchence family love her and they love Tiger.? HE says it is what Michael would have wanted. ?I have written to everyone saying please, come all together for a reconciliation and let bygones be bygones. There has got to be a new starting point because so many things got fouled up after Michael?s death. I think the time has come for everybody to come together. Let us start acting like a caring family, a functional family, instead of a dysfunctional one. ?I think Michael would have been terribly disappointed at all this squabbling.? LOL All that needs to be said has been said by Renee already. I only saw it on the ch.10 news last night. It was only Kirk, Jon and Andrew opening a ward in a hospital by singing NTUA to the children in hospital. Garry and Tim were not there, could be that they were doing their parts in the studio, or the band were doing that '3 people accoustic thing' like they did on various radio shows across America and Europe last year. Kirk was 'sort of' lead vocals, these 2 "Captain Starlight characters" were said to be the lead vocalists. Kirk was however sort of pretty strong backup for them. He was in his normal spot on stage, and Jon was at the back, but since there was only 3, Andrew was in Tim's spot. I'm sorry BEERS GOD but I can't help you with where Garry was I can only guess, doubt he'll be at the memorial service either, guess you'll have to wait and see on the day. I must thank Stephen B. who went to a lot of effort to dig out two articles and send them to me to transcribe. The second follows in a few days. TEARS AS SHE TOLD ME TO GO by Sue Evison, The Sun, London, 5 October 1998 Shattered Paula Yates is still so in love with tragic Michael Hutchence that she takes his ashes with her everywhere--even to bed. Her ex-lover Kingsley Okeke said the troubled mum-of-four had sewn rocker Hutchence's remains into a small sequinned pillowcase. She told reformed heroin addict Kingsley: "I need Michael with me always." And she cuddled the cushion while she slept. Kingsley, 27--who had a lust-filled five-week fling with Paula before she ended it a fortnight ago--discovered her strange secret the first time they had sex at her house. He said yesterday: "I rolled into the bed and felt this hard lump in my back. I moved over and found the small sequinned pillow with what felt like a lump inside. I went to put it on the floor but Paula told me to leave it on the bed. She said, very casually, "That's Michael"--as if it was the most normal thing in the world to have a dead person's ashes in bed with you. She also told me the bed we were in was the same one she had shared with Michael. I admit I found that a bit strange but Paula is still so in love with Michael that she didn't see anything odd about any of it. She told me, "Michael wouldn't mind--he would just want me to be happy." Paula would curl up around the little pillow after we'd had sex, to sleep with Michael. And she never left the ashes at home when she traveled." Ex-jailbird Kingsley added: "I know it sounds bizarre. But I came to realise Paula has suffered terribly. And that is what she needed to do to help her cope." Kingsley met Paula--left devastated when INXS singer Hutchence hanged himself in a Sydney hotel room last November--at a Wiltshire health clinic two months ago. He was undergoing treatment for chronic heroin addiction. She was having grief counseling after an apparent suicide bid. And both were kicked out when they began a forbidden affair. Kingsley said: "It was lust at first sight--we couldn't contain ourselves." Paula, 38, immediately took him into her West London home--which he described as a shrine to Hutchence. He said: "There are photographs of him covering nearly every inch of space, each lit by a big red church candle. I felt intimidated at first. I realised Paula was still in love with one of the world's biggest sex symbols--and there he was staring out at me at all times. BLAMED "Paula talked about Michael endlessly, telling me some of the funny things they'd done together and how happy he had made her. She said she blamed herself for his death. She believed he'd still be alive today if she had joined him in Australia instead of allowing him to go alone. We'd often sit up all night talking about Michael. I listened and she cried--a lot. But she said it helped her come to terms with her grief." Kingsley, who served time for drug and theft offences and is currently on probation, now lives on benefits in a West London bail hostel. He checked in voluntarily "because its routines help keep me on the straight and narrow." He was always puzzled about what former TV host Paula saw in him--but will never forget the experience because of the sensational sex they shared. He added: "Paula opened my eyes to what sex can really be about. She is an unbelievable experience for any man. I can understand why Michael called her his addiction. She is the sexiest, most adventurous woman I've ever had sex with." Kingsley said Paula's king-size bed is festooned with twelve sets of fairy lights. He said: "Some are in the shape of chillis, some are heart-shaped, some are ordinary Christmas tree lights and some are hand-made Chinese paper lanterns. "Michael bought the lanterns for Paula not long before he died. They cost about 500 pounds each--and there were scores of them. There are life-size statues of Jesus and the Virgin Mary standing [by] each side of the bed. They used to put me off a bit--I felt we were always being watched. The bed is draped with a skull and crossbones flag. And in the corner of the room there's a big Australian flag beside a vast picture of Michael. The whole bedroom is dotted with hundreds of nightlight candles. It's a fantasy land--and Paula certainly enjoys her fantasies." Kingsley told how Paula--who had three daughters with ex-husband Bob Geldof--is "totally devoted" to Tiger, her two-year-old girl fathered by Hutchence. He said: "I've never seen Paula so excited as when Tiger learned to say, 'shoe.' Tiger is a little darling and Paula is fiercely protective of her. Tiger would often clamber into bed with us if she had a bad dream or was unwell. She accepted me as 'Mummy's friend' but was well aware Michael was her father. She'd point at his picture and say 'My Daddy.' It was very touching." Sad Kingsley told how he and Paula both wept as she told him their fling was over. Paula is facing a tough custody battle over daughter Tiger with Hutchence's dad Kell--and feared her relationship with the ex-junkie could jeopardise her case. Kingsley, who quit Paula's home two weeks ago, said: "I was devastated when she told me to leave but I understand her reasons. She always made it clear her children came first and that our relationship was a one-day-at-a-time scenario. I think she fell in lust with me but I fell in love with her. She's a fantastic woman." Paula helped Kingsley to pack his bags before hooking him into a hotel. She paid for him to stay there for a week while he looked for another home. REELING Kingsley said: "We were both crying but there were no big scenes. The split was something we both knew had to happen. Paula said she needed time for her kids, time to be alone--and she didn't have enough time for me." He added: "I'm still reeling from the shock of being without her. Our relationship was very intense-we were together nearly 24 hours a day. I miss her and hope we will one day be friends." Kingsley, who grew up on a London council estate, also misses Paula's home. He said: "It's beautiful. There are fresh lilies all around, scenting the air, and the walls are draped with her sari collection." But he denied he saw Paula as a meal ticket and said he only accepted one gift from her--a gold plated cross she already owned. He said: "I think she just needed somebody to hold, somebody to be there for her, somebody to help her escape from her sadness. I realised I would probably end up being a fling. But though that hurts I'm glad of the time I spent with her." OK, now, back to some INXS content... ;-) I've read about those of you in Oz seeing on the news that the Farriss Bros (or most of them) played for the childrens hospital, has anything some out in the print media about this, or was this just some random sighting? As for the "squirm that wasn't" by Jam TV, there are subtle differences (basically the inclusion of the words "may appear" throughout the article) from the original. In the email Anni sent defending herself, she basically said she got her info from Kell himself, but she acknowledged most of it was just him thinking outloud. OK, I *promise* to all of you this'll be my last U2 "Sweetest Thing" video post! lol... Anyhow, the song was written for Ail during the Joshua Tree session days, as an apology for Bono forgetting her birthday. They intended to put it on JT, but then it didn't get completely, finished. And, as Edge said in a recent interview (I'm paraphrasing here) "we all sort of though of it was her song, one that was *just* for her. Afterwards, we realized it should have been on the CD as well." So, when they decided to put out the Best Of... CD, they realized that this was the perfect opportunity to release Ali's song (It was previously available only as a b-side to "Where the Streets Have No Name.") Then, since it's now a single, it needed a video. Ali was asked what she wanted for the video, and she asked for 3 things: to be the "star," get Boyzone in it, and to give all the proceeds to her favorite charity, one that benefits the children affected by Chernobyl. It was much more carefully written than JamTV's article. Michael Hutchence Memorial Planned For Death Anniversary Father of late INXS frontman schedules Nov. 22 event to mark day charismatic Australian vocalist took his life. Senior Writer Gil Kaufman reports: The family of INXS singer Michael Hutchence, whose suicide shocked the music world last November and abruptly ended the band's plans to tour in celebration of 20 years together, is planning a memorial for him on the anniversary of his death. The event will be followed in January by a tribute concert for the Australian band's charismatic frontman. The Nov. 22 service will be held in the Northern Chapel of Sydney, Australia's Northern Suburbs Memorial Park, where Hutchence's funeral took place last year. Members of INXS, as well as 3,000 fans, are expected to attend the memorial, according to the late singer's father, Kelland Hutchence. "This will be the one and only [memorial event]," Kelland Hutchence said. "We won't do this every year. It's the first memorial service as a tribute to my darling son and his great achievement in the music industry. That's what it's all about." The 5 p.m. service will include the unveiling of a memorial wall the singer's father has constructed in his son's honor, although he preferred to keep specifics about the wall private until its unveiling. The 37-year-old vocalist on such INXS hits as "Devil Inside" and "Suicide Blonde" committed suicide by hanging himself in his Sydney hotel room in November 1997. Although the singer's father was unsure whether he would speak during the memorial service, he said that Pastor Dennis Patterson, who performed last year's funeral service, will participate. "It depends how I feel," Kelland Hutchence said. "It will be a very sad and emotional time for me. This whole thing is just so sad, such a tragic loss to his mother and me, and to the music world." INXS manager Martha Troup was careful to make a distinction between the memorial service and the tribute concert she is organizing to take place in Australia on Jan. 22. The band will not be playing at the memorial service," Troup said, quashing published rumors that INXS would be debuting unreleased compositions during the service. Troup said the surviving members of the veteran band -- Garry Gary Beers (bass), Kirk Pengilly (guitar/saxophone) and brothers Andrew Farriss (guitar/keyboards), Jon Farriss (drums) and Tim Farriss (guitar) -- will be involved in the tribute concert, although she would not yet reveal the names of the other artists expected to participate. "It will be more of a celebration," Troup said of the all-star show. Kelland Hutchence added that the bandmembers had been invited to the Nov. 22 service, but he had not received any confirmation of their plans to attend. INXS have not played publicly together since Hutchence's death, which came just as the band was planning to launch an Australian tour to celebrate two decades of performing and recording. Earlier this year, Tim Farriss spoke to the Australian newspaper the Sunday Herald about plans to honor the singer with a concert in Australia or London. The idea was to benefit Hutchence's toddler daughter, Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily. It is unclear whether the Jan. 22 concert will be held as a benefit. Last month, Troup said a New York show to coincide with the Australian tribute was possible, but she had no additional information on the U.S. show at press time. The band's former Australian publicist, Shawn Deacon, who had called Farriss' comment premature, previously confirmed that such major artists as pop-rocker Elton John, glam-rock pioneer David Bowie, proto-punk-rocker Iggy Pop, crooner Tom Jones, Duran Duran singer Simon Le Bon and Hutchence crony/U2 singer Bono had been approached to play a benefit show. Troup would not confirm the participation of any of the artists. Bono paid tribute to his departed friend at a Sydney concert in February when he dedicated the U2 song "Wake Up Dead Man" to Hutchence and played the INXS song "Never Tear Us Apart" (RealAudio excerpt) over the PA system after the show. Troup has said that more than 40 unreleased songs by INXS exist and might still be issued. The band released nine albums over the course of its 20 years together. A posthumous solo album by Hutchence, produced by Black Grape's Danny Saber and former Gang of Four guitarist Andy Gill, was expected to be released this year. It is currently on hold, according to Troup. -- Sue sue@mdc.net http://www.mdc.net/~sue In my cd player: The Church - Hologram of Baal Sender: inxslist@smtp.digitalcastle.com Errors-To: nanci@smtp.digitalcastle.com Reply-To: inxslist@digitalcastle.com X-Listserver: Macjordomo 1b10 - Macintosh Listserver by Michele Fuortes Date: Fri, 6 Nov 98 23:56:29 +0000 From: cchase@teleport.com To: Multiple recipients of Subject: INXS: Re: Fwd: Soup and Salad Bar? I, too have been having a lot of dreams of Michael. Most of them that I remember have been very nice. He is very peaceful and smiles. He also has not stopped singing nor writing. He misses singing with his friends, but he still sings alot. He still sounds great and still looks hot! Cat, this Nov. 22 will be hard for me, too. My birthday is this month, too - which makes it not a very happy one. But because of my dreams, Michael will help me this year and each year after that until we meet in the afterlife. You can also email me anytime. But you do have a lot of friends here who understand the sadness. Take care and I will be thinking of you. I will "send a message" to Michael for you in my next dream. Shabooh Shoobah is excellant. > > LOL... ya need to get to know us just a wee bit better, eh? ;-) i'd say a great deal of us are KICK kids and before....KICK was my 1st INXS album (i got it for my 13th b-day... you do the math :) ), the Swing was my second, LLT my third and shabooh my fourth... after that it gets a bit hazy, lol... and i love it all...EW (no flames pleeeeez) is not anywhere near the top of my list.... then again, i'm not sure which thread you were refering to, so my comment may not make any sense at this point LOL. anyway, my point... some of the people on the list were listening to shabooh and the swing as toddlers... they're just a bit quieter, i think :) just to get a look our favorite songs, take a look at the annual list polls...they can be found at http://www.umdnj.edu/~kotharne/inxs/inxs-list.html near the bottom. faves bounce from new to old and back again... it's just cuz it's all so good :) anyway.. before i stop making sense (too late?) i'll sign off. take care all~ courtney Sender: inxslist@smtp.digitalcastle.com Errors-To: nanci@smtp.digitalcastle.com Reply-To: inxslist@digitalcastle.com X-Listserver: Macjordomo 1b10 - Macintosh Listserver by Michele Fuortes Date: Sat, 7 Nov 1998 12:37:04 -0500 From: liberty-outpost@juno.com To: Multiple recipients of Subject: INXS: Set List to the 14 September 1997 INXS Show! It was at the Capital Ballroom in Washington DC, on 14 September. I thought those of you who were at the show would particularly enjoy it. Here it is:
