No song list was available. Should be out early summer (Rhino Records). Hay! I'm only one month into the new year, and already my New Year's wish is coming true! Woo-hoo! Is there a Paula Yates related movie coming out you ask? No! Love has announced that she is so intent on playing the non-existing part of Paula Yates that she'll even write the script if she has to! Love told the Irish newspaper The Star that she felt she and Yates had much in common; both had battled alcohol and drugs, both had children to dead rock stars and both had peroxide blonde hair. The difference is, Yates is the one that could not overcome her drug problems, and unfortunately died late last year. Love and Yates met not long before her death. "We exchanged phone numbers and made plans to hang out" Love said, "but I believe I met her for a reason, and now I'll bring her true story to the world." So there you have it.....interesting, huh? Just a thought, if it did go ahead, who should play Michael??? I think an aussie actor, probably Heath Ledger, or someone who bears SOME resemblance, there was a movie I was watchign one day and thought the actor looked 'somewhat' like MH, but can't remember who, but I think Mark Whalberg in the movie Metal God looks 'kinda' like him. I wish I could remember the other guy but, I think it's an aussie though. What do you mean "do something about his accent"? The man is French, but none of the Highlander movies give this away. He does a dead-on American accent, as well as others. (For all I nkow, one of his Highlander personas was an Aussie at sometime, who knows?) I'd think that if he wants to "stalk strine," as the saying goes, he'd be quite capable. As for Geldof, how about Christopher Lloyd in him "Jim" from Taxi mode? Looks like a winner to me! I agree...I'm not trying to drag this out again, but neil did a hell of a job. before INXS.com was "reinvented" back in october of 99, inxsweb.com (and it's many other names) was in my opinion, and several others' opinions, THE official INXS site. INXS.com was a joke when it 1st went up. I mean, it was pretty and all, but nothing was updated and the elegantly wasted multimedia they had was up there for over 2 years collecting dust. neil always had the hard to find stuff. you know, INXS.com is presenting INXS' live version of revolution right now. hell, neil had revolution over 2 years ago! that's old news to me...thanks to neil, I already have seen/heard it! INXS.com IS a good site, but I honestly preferred neil's site. even if it didn't have official comments from band members all the time. neil was responsible for bringing awareness of INXS to the internet. it's a shame now that neil devotes very little time to inxsweb.com anymore. I understand he's busy playing doctor and all, but I have a feeling his lack of compassion for inxsweb.com isn't because he's so busy, but because he got the shaft by INXS.com. oh well... eric reed ===== got milkshake? get to know eric reed at: http://www.members.tripod.com/skippythefrog/skippy.html From: "Gail Warren" To: Sent: Tuesday, February 13, 2001 4:38 AM Subject: [Inxs] Aussie Band Help Hi Everyone, My son is doing a music assignment on Australian Music. I understand > he's busy playing doctor and all, but I have a feeling his lack of > compassion for inxsweb.com isn't because he's so busy, but because he > got the shaft by INXS.com. oh well... Well, I'd be lying if I didn't agree that there wasn't some truth to what you both have written -- yes, I was pretty pissed at the time over the non-chalant attitude in which I was simply written off. I don't think there's anyone (including the band's management or the band itself for that matter) who could honestly say I wasn't responsible for "bringing awareness of INXS to the internet." I don't need to go into the hundreds of hours I spent building the band a presence, because it's all water under the bridge now. I don't care to rehash the past. As for the present -- I for one do *not* think that INXSweb.com is a tired old site that is never updated anymore. INXSweb News is *still* the first place to report many many stories of INXS importance. Sure, I may not get the scoop on an upcoming INXS show, etc first (inxs.com is obviously aware first) -- but when it comes to ancillary news, INXSweb.com is still the best place to visit, in my humble opinion. I can list well over 50 times that inxs.com has literally lifted something from INXSweb's pages, only to have it magically appear on .com's news page. Only recently have Mario and I decided to return the favor by "borrowing" some choice news stories from INXS.com -- of course, we cite our source; in turn, though, we have not been give the same courtesy. For example, if you check out INXSweb.com's news page right now (http://inxsweb.com/news) you'll see a story on The Swing going platinum. Here it is: The Swing Hits Platinum Mark INXSweb Exclusive: INXS' monumental fourth LP, The Swing, has just been certified platinum (sales in excess of 1 million copies) by the RIAA in the United States. The landmark work was initially released on November 19, 1984 and features such classic INXS hits as "Original Sin" and "Burn For You." Congratulations to INXS on this incredible achievement! (thanks to aaron seifferlein) Here is a rundown on the current US certifications for INXS albums (in order): - Shabooh Shoobah (Gold) - The Swing (Platinum) - Listen Like Thieves (2x Platinum) - Kick (6x Platinum) - X (2x Platinum) - Live Baby Live (Platinum) - Welcome To Wherever You Are (Platinum) - Greatest Hits (Platinum) This story then magically appeared on INXS.com's news page two and a half days later... with the same date of February 11. Go figure. Platinum Swing The 1984 INXS album, The Swing has just been certified platinum by the RIAA in the USA, with over 1 million copies sold. The Swing was released on November 19th 1984 and gave the band it's first number 1 in Australia with Original Sin. It now joins a long list of INXS album certified platinum in the US. - The Swing (platinum) - Listen Like Thieves (2 x platinum) - KICK (6 x platinum) - X (2 x platinum) - Live Baby Live (platinum) - Welcome To Wherever You Are (platinum) - The Greatest Hits (platinum) There's *no way* it's merely a coincidence that INXS.com used the same formatting for listing the albums' total sales. Or even that they listed the total sales. They simply copied it and rearranged the order. But hey -- it's a free world. I certainly don't mind at all (heck, it's happened many many many times over the last year) -- and isn't forgery the sincerest form of flattery? But credit to the source (in this case, inxsweb.com) is the right thing to do. Now, before people on INXS' management side get upset with me, or quickly change the formatting on their latest news entry, let me say that I *only* bring this up to dispel the notion that INXSweb.com is a dinosaur with nothing to offer. That's just plain wrong. Lots of things on inxs.com -- from the upcoming events calendar on down, came from ideas that started on inxsweb.com. Again, it's fine -- I'm just pointing it out to prove a point. As for charges that I don't spend much time on the site anymore, well -- you're all right. I don't just "play" a doctor -- the weary bags under my eyes are enough to prove that it's a lot more than playing. I work on average about 80-120 stress-filled hours a week in the hospital -- do you really think when I come home that one of my priorities is to work on my website? Come on, let's be real. I work on inxsweb.com when I can, when I have the energy. I simply can't do more than that at this time. Sure I have tons of multimedia I would love to share with all of you -- but hey -- I'm not allowed to. And at the end of the day, Mario and I don't have a staff of workers, don't have a web development budget, and don't have the energy or desire to fight with management anymore. (I realize you were joking when you wrote that Eric, I just had to say it anyway. :)) Does all this mean that INXS.com is the only INXS website worth visiting? I humbly submit no -- there is room for more than one big INXS site. With all of your continued support, I can promise you that INXSweb.com will continue to expand and develop (albeit at a slower pace). Mario and I have a lot of new ideas for the website -- and we'll implement them one by one. We're here for the long-run, and after having fought the battles with management of years past -- I should think we've proved that we will fight on. Though I would love to hear comments and feedback, I *don't* want to start up a flame-war on this new list -- so personal email works fine with me if anyone wants to argue. Otherwise, post away! As my son's music teacher is quite young she will be blown away by the number of names that are on my son's list. Secondly, an article in Wednesday's Daily Telegraph "Seventies rock legend Ted Mulry is fighting a losing battle with cancer. The 49-year old Australian music veteran is said to be in good spirits, but struggling to come to grips with the terminal disease (cancer). Music industry stalwarts are planning benefit concerts to be held in Sydney and Melbourne in March, with the possibility of a show or benefit auction to be held in Melbourne. The as-yet unconfirmed line-up is expected to include a re-formed Sherbet, The Angels, INXS, Jimmy Barnes, possibly with Cold Chisel, and the Hoodoo Gurus." The article goes on but isn't it nice to see INXS will be there!!! Gail From: "Michael & Sherri" To: Sent: Thursday, February 15, 2001 5:23 AM Subject: Re: [Inxs] SOTW#136 - Shake The Tree Ahh my favourite song, this is far from typical INXS I guess you would say, however it has the trademark vocal punches and the pulsing energy. I really get in this to this song with either with the bass way up high or the "pop" setting on. As I have previously described this song........it's a real tribal like anthem with that 'hindu' guitar rif 'stepping' over the 4/4 beat. Layered octaves with an intensity significantly different to other INXS songs. Lyrically the song would appear to be about Tiger or Paula (maybe both) ..IE "I see her walking.. in perfect time, she gives me a reason to never say die". Shake the Tree seemingly referring to taking produced fruit from tree rather then cutting it down and getting a rather large log LOL. Michael, maybe telling everybody else how special is little girl was to him compared with the problems that rest of the world was giving him in the verse lyrics. Andrew spent a lot of time on this album as he did on the Swing looking for some really interesting instrument sounds including adding twin keyboard samples together to see what he could come up with......and for me it really works on this song/album. Obviously this song was never going to be a single, even though it seems to have gone through the full production process. Perhaps it's length or perhaps because it is significantly different for INXS, I mean "Need You Tonight" it ain't right? If it was a single I imagine it would have charted as 'poorly'/or as well as anything else of Elegantly Wasted. As for the guitar lead that plays through the concluding choruses/bridges very roughly copying Michaels vocals that is just pure brilliance.......I don't know whether that's Tim or Kirk but if there's some slide guitar there it would have to be Kirk I guess. That just smokes! to me, this is like INXS' heavy metal song, in a way. or as close as they get...and that last minute or 2 at the end is definitely the most scorching pice of music INXS have done, as far as just plain old rocking out goes. the next closest would be tim's guitar solo from guns in the sky. and judging by that solo, I guess it would also be him who is playing the lead at the end of shake the tree! eric reed ===== got milkshake? get to know eric reed at: http://www.members.tripod.com/skippythefrog/skippy.html From: To: Sent: Friday, February 16, 2001 7:35 AM Subject: Re: [Inxs] A Response (long message) you were the 1st and will remian my 1st point of call for all news. I met many incredible people in the chat room and on this list - many of whom I'm still very close friends with and I'm always grateful for their friendships. Along with the many friends that I made, I also was fortunate enough to meet someone very special. A lot of you may know this story already and a lot of you are probably saying "Who the heck is this person and why do I care about her announcement?" I don't post as often as I use to and so the fact that you have no clue who I am is a direct result of that. Anyway, on with my story - Davy (your new list host) and I met in the chat room about two weeks after Michael died. There was some definite online chemistry. We then met in person at the first annual MH Birthday bash in Dallas, TX in January of '98 (I live in Oregon and made the trip for the party and to meet him). We hit it off incredibly well and the party ended and the weekend ended and I went home. Things progressed as time went forward and our relationship grew stronger (as the good ones do!) and Davy moved up to Oregon so that we could be together in September of '98. Well, without dragging this story on forever (as I am so capable of doing)... Here's the announcement - (so pay attention) We're getting married! Davy asked me on Friday and I said YES! (Duh!) We've set the date for March 23, 2002. Now that I think about it we could get married on the 22nd..... LOL, nah. Anyway - I'm posting to the list simply because if it wasn't for INXS and the online community, Davy and I may never have met. Although we met under the most unfortunate of circumstances, I'm always so grateful to INXS and especially Neil for making our meeting possible. Neil - the music brought us together, but the Internet and your hard work on An Excess of INXS actually connected us - all of us who have made friends (and spouses and future spouses)in that chat room are eternally grateful to you. So anyway - that's my big announcment. It's Davy's announcment, too, of course - but *I'm* the one posting. ;-) We just wanted everyone in our little community to know that we're (some people have inserted the word "finally" here) getting married. :-) Plus, you know, the funnest part of being engaged (so far) is telling people!! And telling a couple hundred people at once, well how can you beat that? Off to plan - only a year and a month to go! You can never make assumptions about these things because people can surprise you. :-) Courtney ===== "My dad always used to tell me that if they challenge you to an after-school fight, tell them you won't wait--you can kick their ass right now." ---Cameron Diaz From: "Leah Sungenis" To: Sent: Friday, February 23, 2001 11:37 AM Subject: Re: [Inxs] rock shrine On Fri, 23 Feb 2001 07:41:00 -0800 (PST) Michelle McFerran writes: > hey all... > > is anyone going to be taping this? i would > REALLY, REALLY like a copy of it, so if it's not too > late, can someone please tape it for me and i'll pay > for the shipping and handling. Hey all, I would like to add that if anyone is willing to send a copy to Dutchie, I will send them any two INXS videos I have. It's obvious to me too that Geldorf will be the one to go first, but it will be a riot to see the order of everyone else. For intance, who wants to vote a cute little girl (Tiger) off an island, or Michael's dad who is beloved by many fans. The poll time has been reduced to three days with immunity challenges still being given the day before the poll closes. And now the first loser... no surprise here... Bob Geldof! Admittedly it was a close competition though. At one point Paula led and in the end the votes were very close for Bob and David Edwards. Tim won immunity challenge the day prior to voting, but this early in the game he didn't need it. However, his immunity is now gone and voting now starts over for everybody remaining.
