Best closer: men and women definitely, i'm with you again Eric and i don't know why fans dislike this song i think it's just great, the blend of rock sound with the orchestra is just great, i would pick building bridges( one of my all time favourite INXS song if it was a closer here but shine is the closer in Europe...) Jennifer Aniston (of "Friends" fame) stars as his girlfriend and manager. The soundtrack will be in stores on August 28th. The film opens nationwide on September 7. The "Rock Star" soundtrack captures the 1980's metal hey day with songs from classic rockers like Motley Crue, Bon Jovi and Kiss, but what is most surprising about the album are the five original tracks by the fictitious band who star in the movie (with Wahlberg as lead singer): Steel Dragon. Steel Dragon is a band that was assembled specifically for "Rock Star." Comprised of longtime Ozzy Osbourne/Black Label Society guitarist Zakk Wylde, Bonham leader and son of the late great Zeppelin drummer, Jason Bonham on drums, Dokken bassist Jeff Pilson, Black Label Society's Nick Catonese on guitar, Yngwie Malmstein vocalist Jeff Scott Soto and Mike Matijevic who fronted the 80's band Steel Heart on vocals as well. The Steel Dragon tracks, which perfectly represent the 1985 hard rock scene in which the movie is set, were written by a variety of musicians, including Sammy Hagar ("Stand Up") and Marilyn Manson bassist, Twiggy Ramirez ("Blood Pollution"). A track from Everclear, appropriately titled "Rock Star," will be the first single and video. Songs from INXS, Verve Pipe and some score selections from Trevor Rabin round out the soundtrack. All of the Steel Dragon tracks were produced by longtime Crue producer Tom Werman. A complete track listing is attached. The movie also includes on camera appearances from Verve Pipe's Brian Vander Ark and Slaughter drummer Blas Elias in the Steel Dragon tribute band Blood Pollution. Finally Stephan Jenkins from Third Eye Blind plays Blood Pollution's replacement lead singer, after the departure of Wahlberg. As anyone who has ever been to a big rock concert will attest, the rock arena scenes in the movie are absolutely authentic. "In the various films about rock and roll I've seen over the years, invariably there are actors portraying musicians," explains "Rock Star" director Stephen Herek. "There always seems to be a certain edge and validity that's missing from their performances." Wahlberg's musical background, coupled with Wylde, Pilson, Bonham and actor Dominic West, give Steel Dragon the chops needed to pull off a too-much-metal-for-one-hand arena rock assault in the film's numerous live concert scenes. The role, of course, wasn't a stretch for any of the musicians. "I've essentially been doing research for this movie for twenty years," jokes Jeff Pilson of his years on the road as bass player for Dokken and Dio. "And one of the best parts about doing this movie was Steve's openness about getting input from us." "My character in the movie was just this guy who likes drinking beer and pretty much doesn't like anybody in the band and just likes shooting guns," Wylde says. "As far as I'm concerned, I got the coolest character in the movie." For heavy metal fans, the realness of both soundtrack and the film make "Rock Star," a must listen, must see. Is it "Live Baby Live", with a long "I" as in dive, or short "i" as in give? 2. Why does Michael ask Kirk to play trumpet prior to his sax solo on New Sensation? 3. Where did Michael obtain that hole in his pants during the EW tour? 4. Also concerning this tour, the show I attended featured the band permitting over 100 fans to stage dance at the end of the show. Was this a common thing during their shows? I've never seen this on any concert videos. 5. Michael apparently had relationships with hundreds (thousands?) of women during his touring days, yet in all the years I've been on the list, I can't recall a single lady stating that she had spent the night (or part of it) with him. Either he really knew how to stay away from the kiss-and-tell types or those groupies have been very respectful of his privacy. Anyone else find this remarkable? 6. Is Jon Stevens an official member or not? 7. Is anyone else still bitter that NBC (in the US) cut away from Stevens and INXS during their performance at the Olympics Closing Ceremonies? Does anyone recall a band member's reaction when told of this? Or were they advised beforehand that their performance may not actually be shown, and the broadcast was really about getting the thoughts of some giggling athletes while listening to some music? 7. Does anyone else feel that, with the current wave of dance music, INXS is only one hit song away from hitting it very big, once again? Andrew, are you listening? 8. When is Tim going to appear on Politically Incorrect? No offense to Michael and Andrew, but we need somebody in there who'll put those people in their place! 9. If you were forced to quickly evacuate your home (containing your INXS collection of whatever you've got), and you could only take one item from that collection, what would it be? 10. With regard to the girls fans I think that unfortunately there are a lot of them who loved and keep on loving Michael for his appearance whereas there were and there still are so many other things to admire. Perhaps they didn't have the chance and the time to know him better. That's just a thought don't be offended. Have a very good time, Fabienne. "For Michael," it says, "1960-1997." That's Michael as in Hutchence. "He was one of my closest friends," Lowenstein says of the former INXS frontman. "In amongst all the bulls--- that followed his death, it's a little something I can do. A little personal statement." A comedy that has already proved a big hit as both a book and a play, He Died with a Felafel in His Hand consists of a series of sharehousing anecdotes linked by the character played by Noah Taylor. But in more ways than one the film owes a debt to Hutchence, whom Lowenstein met while shooting music videos in the early '80s - a period when rock was just as excessive as the capitalised name of Hutchence's band. "We had some pretty riveting experiences." Lowenstein laughs. "It's funny, when I saw Almost Famous, which Noah [Taylor] is in, there's a scene where the little journalist [not played by Taylor] is accepted into the band. I loved that film on a personal level because that's almost what INXS did to me. "The very first time they flew us up to Mackay or somewhere to do the first video, suddenly Michael was dragging me out on stage. He was singing to thousands of people with his arm around me, while I was filming with my little camera. That was a buzz. And 10 years later he was still doing the same thing." In 1986, Lowenstein cast Hutchence in the lead role of Dogs in Space, a gritty drama about an inner-city rock band. "After Dogs there were a lot of offers of things in a rock 'n' roll vein. The Doors [movie] was offered to me, with Michael playing Jim Morrison." Both men's careers were firing, as was their friendship. But between Dogs in Space and Felafel, Lowenstein directed only one feature, 1993's Say a Little Prayer. "That wasn't the greatest experience," says the 42-year-old film-maker. "But there has been lots of other stuff along the way. I've set up a company in Melbourne and created a sort of hotbed for young film-makers. We produced [the documentary] Chasing Buddha; and we're doing a series of satirical music shows with John Safran ..." Now, a decade-and-a-half after Dogs, Hutchence is gone, and Lowenstein is making a comeback with a film that could almost be described as Dogs' long-lost sequel. While Dogs was an episodic tale of drugs and grimy share housing, Felafel is, well, an episodic tale of drugs and grimy sharehousing. "Dogs to me wasn't really about sharehousing, it was more about the era we were trying to capture. But in a way I like the idea of making an emotional sequel to Dogs, of capturing the sharehousing experience in the current environment. I also liked the way we started off in a house that is visually similar to the Dogs house - the classic decrepit messy place -but then you end up in this Melrose Place-on-acid bright white penthouse which no-one expects." After a brief opening sequence featuring a felafel and a death, the film moves to Brisbane, where Danny (Noah Taylor) is living in his 47th shared house. Danny wants to be a writer, but spends too much time drinking beer, playing guitar and slamming cane toads against a wall with a golf club. And sadly, the chaotic harmony he enjoys with a bunch of boys and one tomboy named Sam (Emily Hamilton) is shattered by two heavies who insist on collecting the rent. Not even black-clad Satanist Anya (French actress Romane Bohringer from Savage Nights and The Apartment) can keep these meatheads at bay, so Danny flees to damp Melbourne, and then eventually to neurotic Sydney. After his recent role in Tomb Raider, Taylor plays Danny with typical understatement. It's a rather juicier part than his role as a "Bowie fan" in Dogs in Space. "I had known Noah for a long time," Lowenstein says. "But he lived in Sydney and I lived Melbourne, and we hadn't been in contact for some time. Then by coincidence he arrived from Sydney one day and started living downstairs from me with a bunch of other actors." That's when the Felafel project started gaining momentum. Lowenstein had already been meeting Birmingham, who was providing ideas and snippets but was too busy writing the book Leviathan to finish the screenplay. Then, just when everything was set, Taylor was cast in Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous. "That delayed this film about six months - on top of the four years we'd already taken." Just came home from seeing INXS live in Bonn, Germany. First of all (being still excited like hell).... I had the chance to meet Andrew, Tim and Garry Gary!!! Andrew came out first, a really modest and down-to-earth guy, he signed my JAPANESE edition of "Elegantly wasted", was really stunned that I own this CD and never saw it before :-) I gave Andrew my band Winterland's recent CD with our cover-version of "Original sin", he was glad to see a German band covering an INXS song and said he'll listen to it. AH!!!! I was the happiest guy on earth!!!! I told him I really missed "Elegantly wasted" on the setlist which obviously surprised him, he said they thought people especially in the US didn't seem to really like that song. Tim and Garry Gary came afterwards, and I had a short conversation with Tim. While signing my CD, he somehow ended up talking about Michael and Tim said "You know, he will never really be gone, because he will always be here" and touched his heart.... that was very moving and nice of him to say. The gig itself was incredible as well. Starting with "New sensation", including ALL major hits and the first encore was "By my side" beginning with just Andrew singing and playing Piano, then for the chorus with the full band. This song was the MOST intense of the set, no doubt (I had tears in my eyes!). Jon Stevens is a good performer, a great singer and we should give him a chance. He will never be Michael of course, but he helps the band do what they do best: Play good music and keep the INXS songs and spirit alive!!! His voice fits to the songs (contrary to e.g. Terence Trent D'Arby in my opinion) and his stage acting fits to the band, so it felt like a team, not like a stranger singing with strangers, you know? The lover of tragic TV presenter Paula Yates was found hanging from his belt wrapped around the door spring of Room 524 in Sydney's Ritz Carlton Hotel four years ago. An Australian coroner's inquiry found he had committed suicide, but Paula always insisted Michael, right, would never kill himself and must have died performing a kinky sex act. Now the hotel, which has changed its name to the Stamford Plaza, is plagued by fans of the rock idol nicking the numbers off the door of 524. A staff member admitted: "We have to replace the door number about once a fortnight. It's a real problem. "It's like it's Jim Morrison's grave or something - Michael's fans make pilgrimages to the hotel to see where it happened and want to take away something to remember him by. "We've even had people trying to book into suite 524 specifically, but we refuse those requests." He added: "The simplest solution might simply be to renumber the entire fifth floor and just not have a suite 524 any more. "But at least no-one's tried to take the door's self-closing mechanism, where Michael hung himself ." The hotel is still a favourite of stars visiting Australia. Nicole Kidman even put it down on the electoral register as her permanent address in Australia, instead of her home in the neighbouring Darling Point suburb. I talked to Dutchie today about this article about Michael's room and got that last post from Ashlynne. It is damn ironic...I was sooooo aggravated today. Well, here is the breakdown of what happened... There are several ways into the building which houses the hotel as there are shops in an arcade style formation in it but only one way into the actual hotel portion...you go in a door, past a desk and up the stairs...a lot of the hotels' lobbies are not on the ground floor in OZ. I went in, looked around...the hotel is decorated in a rich roccoco style; elegant and sophisticated with large vases and rich colors. I found the bar with a piano and mic next to it...I know that he was in the bar after he went to dinner and changed cause I read that he was in the bar with women around him and applauded the cabaret singer; while waiting to meet Kym Wilson and her boyfriend. Bar is brown and beige decor. I went in the elevator and hit 5th floor...I am freaking cause he probably was in this elevator the last time...if he took this elevator ever as there is probably some back way. I get to the fifth floor and follow the sign to 524...my heart is racing and my body is in spasms....I dont know if it is cause I am feeling some very ever present presence or I am wigging out cause this is where he was and didnt come out of...I walk past 524, which was on my left, a window on my right over looks a courtyard. Maid service was making up room 523 and I think, "Is that the room that the guests stayed in whom they questioned if they heard anything that night?" I say hello to a woman now on my left, just past 524 who I think is a guest...THIS IS WHERE MY MISTAKE LAY! I walked around the floor and back to the elevator...should I ask to see the room? "What the heck, it is now or never", I say to myself as I look in a mirror. I go back past the room, take a breath as I look out the window, thinking how beautiful it all is and how sad that he must have seen this view once. I ask to see the room....the woman who I thought was the guest was the one I asked...she asks if I am a guest of the hotel, puts on her coat, tells me she just has to ring down to let them know and I follow her....I AM SOOOOOOO DUMB. I stand there, she having left down some corridor, and I wait for her to return and think "She was nice; cool. Maybe she is gonna call security? Maybe I should just leave. Nah. She was nice." She comes back in what seems to be an eternity later with a guy who has a tag SECURITY...he tells me I have to sign in and some crap and escorts me into the elevator and then down out of it and to the desk. I go to the desk and request to see the room. I am told to take a seat and wait while a very courteous desk person calls up to see if the room is ready to be shown. The security guy is watching me as I am sitting in the lobby. A man comes up and bends down and asks how he can help me; I tell him and he asks me why I want to see it..."Cause Im a fan of MH", I managed to say, freaking out inside as if I have done something sooooo wrong. He tells me "You cant see the room. All the numbers have been changed and all the decor is different. You cant just go around looking at rooms." Security escorts me down the stairs and I walk out the door, wishing that Michael was with me; that he had walked out the damn door himself and that I never went or ever wanted to go or heard of the damn place. I was hysterical, thinking "what the heck do they think I am..." The love of my life assured me that it was just a procedure and had nothing to do with me and they dont know me...wonderful, isnt he? He is right. But obviously, Im not the only one and I HOPE THAT MORE OF US GO DOWN THERE AND BUG THE LIVING SHIT OUT OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!! The lesson to be learned? DONT ASK TO SEE THE ROOM!!!!!! PS: The room numbers are to the side of the doors on a raised white plaque, written in blue. Some guy a while back was ebaying the room number, which I think was on a bronze plaque. After I asked him how he got it, he claimed it "accidentally" fell off the wall; that item quickly vanished from ebay's list as I think I scared him. >From that article, I think that the idiot lied to me and that the decor and room numbers have not been changed but then again who the heck am I but some dumb American from NJ.... But obviously, Im > not the only one and I HOPE THAT MORE OF US GO DOWN THERE AND BUG THE LIVING > SHIT OUT OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!! Honestly, I think hotel security did the right thing in asking you to leave. After all, they are running a business, and you were not there in a business capacity. If you want to mourn Michael there are certainly more appropriate places (i.e., the gravesite area that Kell has put together). By hanging out at the hotel and asking to see the room, you disrupted the business of the hotel, and could easily have been a point of distraction or discomfort for the hotel's paying guests. I know that if I were staying in a hotel and fans of some person who'd died there were lurking about I'd be uncomfortable, and certainly wouldn't hesitate to call security to have them removed. While I am not saying that everyone who would skulk around a hotel like this has some problem, there are many disturbed people out there, and one never knows what they might do. In short, security was just doing their job by asking you to leave. I for one hope that no one else on the list goes and gets themselves kicked out of the hotel. It makes the fans look bad, and even, IMO, makes Michael look bad, as it casts a disparaging light on those who loved him. I really can't imagine that all this time later he'd be wanting people hanging out in a hotel hallway or lobby just trying to be "close" to him. If you want to remember him, go to the gravesite, listen to a CD, watch DIS, or do something that actually celebrated his LIFE. Lurking in hotel hallways is nothing more than a maudlin reaction that seems, to me, more one for show than of genuine sentiment. I hope you did visit the memorial as that is a very special place, I spent ages there and it was very spiritual and healing, I also visited where his ashes were scattered and I hope you may have visited there as well! That is the best place for a fan to go! I also went to the Ritz Carlton before it was changed to the Stamford Plaza and we went there to the hotel lobby, just to have a few drinks in Michael's memory in the bar and the same pianist was playing as the night when Michael was there as it was also a Friday night. The reason I know it was the same person is because we asked him if he played every Friday night and how many years had he been playing there for! That was a discreet way of finding out that it was the same guy as was there the same Friday night that Michael was there! He was a lovely friendly guy and he actually reminded me of Michael in his demeaner. We only wanted to go just for a few drinks in Michael's memory and were totally discreet about the reason as to why we were there.. I never had any inclination whatsoever to even contemplate going upstairs, I could see the lift from the bar, and that alone was a macabre feeling! I personally think it is very bad taste to want to attempt to view the room...for what benefit?? We were there at night time with lots of other people around and it was such a friendly place. The staff were exemplary in their friendliness and service towards us! When we first got there a employee even rushed ahead of us to get the lift for us and when I had to go to the toilet, I was escorted, not knowing where it was! It is a really lovely boutique hotel, and service is of the highest quality..remember too that it is a hotel where discretion is assured! That's why alot of stars and famous people stay there! Yes, we did go there for Michael but also for ourselves and it was done in a dignified and discreet manner! And next time I go to Sydney, I would visit there again because I liked the service and the place, not because it was the last place Michael was! And the fact that everytime I stay in Sydney, we always stay in that vicinity anyway! My most memorable thing to do with Michael was definately visiting his memorial and being able to lay flowers there! Nancy, I agree with you wholeheartedly!
