The group, famed for such hits as "Need You Tonight" and "Devil Inside," will kick off a 40-city club tour in Anaheim, Calif., on May 30 with Jon Stevens at the helm, the group's publicist said in a statement on Friday. Stevens, who has performed with INXS on short tours of Australia and Europe, is the former singer with Australian rock band Noiseworks, and a longtime friend of INXS' members. "No one will ever replace Michael as the lead singer of INXS. At the same time, we all still have a passion to perform and to continue doing what we love," said Andrew Farriss, guitarist, keyboardist and main songwriter with INXS. "In the past year we've played some shows with Jon, who is a fantastic singer. It has felt very comfortable, and sounded pretty damn good, so it seems a natural progression to perform together for this U.S. tour," Farriss added in the statement. INXS last played the United States in 1997, following the release of its last studio album, "Elegantly Wasted." Hutchence hanged himself in a Sydney hotel room on Nov. 22 of that year, apparently upset about domestic problems. INXS had planned to tour the United States last year with hard-rocking compatriots Midnight Oil, but the dates were scuttled. Other key stops for the first leg of the INXS tour include the House of Blues in Las Vegas on June 1, the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles on June 4, Utah State Fair Park in Salt Lake City on June 11, the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix on June 13, and the City Lights Pavilion in Denver on June 15. We thought we had all the answers; it was the questions we had wrong. --Bono From: CUatCncert@aol.com Sent: Fri, 1 Mar 2002 21:49:30 EST To: inxs@topica.com Subject: Re: INXS: West Coast Dates Yes, 3 dates in the LA area plus one in Vegas. Some of you will recall that I read extensively into the issue of Michael's money and will and wrote a lot of emails about it at the time. I have always believed that Michael's two executors ripped him off heavily, but now it looks like they got the entire store. A lot of people on the listserv were also pissed off at the time when Tina and Patricia, Michael's sister and mother, sued the estate for an accounting of the properties, people believing that the women were trying to get more money for themselves. But it was fairly obvious after some research that they were trying to get the court to force Michael's executors to disclose where his properties, possessions and bank accounts were. Tina and Patricia have now been totally vindicated. Here is the information from an article send kindly by AngusTed, who keeps us informed of all doings INXS. "After five years of legal battles....accounts reveal that his will has only about $60,000 left in his estate. And none of it will go to his family." His will allocated half his money to Tiger Lily, but specified that the first $500,000 US was to go to charity. The article is a little vague about exactly how much money is left either before or after this $500,000 is paid, but at best, Tiger Lily is going to get $60,000 and at worst she'll get nothing. The article further points out the obvious, that he wouldn't have specified half a million to charity if that was all he had, since we know that his daughter was his number one concern in life and in death. Let this be a lesson to people who hide their assets from the taxman without having the head for business to do it properly. Michael was a trusting and loving soul who preached socialism but didn't want to pay the high taxes socialism demands. He therefore lost everything. Think about it the next time you try to convince yourself that socialist "utopias" are better than real world systems with all their warts that actually let you keep some of your hard earned money. That's why so many rock stars move to America, because the tax burden is lighter and you don't have to hide your money so well that only unscrupulous business partners can ever find it again. This is a terrible tragedy for a little girl who has suffered more than any child should ever have to. Michael's executors, Andrew Paul and Colin Diamond should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, but the law doesn't seem to be able to touch them. They successfully pulled off one of the most evil cons I've ever seen. I hope they burn in hell. Executors are not above the law and cannot 'rip off' anyone without legal consequences. Michael obviously thought he had sufficient funds to make substantial donations to charity and to care for his family. Hopefully, Michael's assets, though not in his name, are safe somewhere. The question is who now has legal entitlement to them and we just don't have that kind of information. I don't believe that Michael was naive when it came to money matters. Also, I don't think accusing Michael of tax evasion is very charitable - we don't know that was the case at all! All this is pure supposition. The question is > who now > has legal entitlement to them and we just don't have that kind of > information. I beg to differ. The information that was able to be gathered is a matter of public record, including the full inquiry into his estate and all lawsuits resulting. The Australian newspapers and magazines have reported on it in great detail. Surely an Australian would be aware of that. Unfortunately the money was spirited away and has become untraceable, although thousands of dollars were spent by the family trying to track the money down. The proof is clear: Tiger Lily is broke. > I don't think accusing Michael of tax evasion is > very charitable.... this is pure supposition. Just to be clear, I didn't accuse Michael of tax evasion. Tax evasion occurs when one doesn't pay what the government says they owe. I said Michael was a tax exile, a man who moves to another country because he wants to pay lower taxes than he would pay if he stayed in his home country. This is hardly speculation, unless you consider Michael's biographers and family members, who have all confirmed it, to be speculating. The press has given us sketchy and contradictory information concerning Michael's wealth. It was my understanding though that Michael's family had taken legal action because they believed that certain assets should have formed part of his estate, not that the assets didn't exist at all. I might add, some of us also have a healthy scepticism for what is reported in the press. After all, it was also reported that Michael was married to Kylie, Helena and Paula (not all at once, of course!). The books written about Michael also have contradictory and sometimes erroneous information. My point was that it is difficult for us to know the truth, after all we are just fans. I fear the same as others, that some kind of crime may have been perpetrated and Michael's money may have 'disappeared' into others' pockets. If that is the case though, surely there are legal remedies, otherwise what is the point of having a legal system! Or are we to believe that the point of having a legal system is so that lawyers can make money. Now we are told that the family gets nothing but Tiger has millions. I hope it's true, but it just sounds like damage control against the first article. If Tiger really has all these secret trusts, why was the family not made privy to this information at the time of Michael's death? Patricia and Tina had to sue Colin Diamond (Michael's executor), and Amnesty International joined in the suit. Kell also agreed to join the suit but at that point they were going to settle, so he didn't. That last sentence is according to Tina. Family members were rebuffed time and again as to what had happened to Michael's money. Tina says that she wanted to protect Tiger's rights, and after reading her book, I believe her. She loved and supported Michael his whole life and never asked for or took a single dime from him even when other family members did. Michael's mother also reports that they were told that Michael had specified cremation in the will. The family was horrified, since Michael had never said anything to anyone about it. But Colin Diamond gave the order to have him cremated, and then, according to Michael's mother, it turned out that there was no provision whatsoever that he be cremated. I would love it if this could be confirmed one way or another. Does anyone know if copies of Michael's will are available? Again, according to Michael's mother, neither she nor Kell were allowed to get Michael's ashes from the crematorium. Colin Diamond had to sign off on it. This is sick and bizarre if true. A lot of unanswered questions.... Cheers, Leah On Tue, 19 Mar 2002 18:16:48 +1030 Jenny Green writes: > The article in The Australian is titled 'Dad left his Tiger Lily much > in excess'. I think, though, that earlier articles referred to Tiger's entitlement to the remainder of Michael's estate and not to Michael's assets that he transferred during his lifetime. Michael's family may not have been told of the existence of these trusts after his death because the executors of Michael's estate would only be concerned with the distribution of assets that formed part of the estate. Paula showed no concern (as far as I am aware) about Tiger's inheritance and she was in close touch with Michael's lawyers. Michael and/or his lawyers would have discussed Tiger's future situation with Paula, I am sure. She definitely knew of the existence of overseas entities because she received funds from one such source to pay a mortgage. We all know how much Paula disliked Michael's family and she may have instructed his lawyers to remain silent. On the other hand, if Michael's family did know that all his assets were controlled by Colin Diamond, etc., and that Tiger was the sole beneficiary, then that would explain why legal action was taken to determine whether those assets formed part of the estate. Afterall, if they were, then Michael's family and various charities had a lot to gain. We don't know all the facts or who is telling the truth. Let's hope though, for Tiger's (and her parents') sake, that there is some truth in this particular version of events. Jenny----- From: "John A. Someone from another group I subscribe to has just alerted me that Yahoo has changed their marketing preferences so now you will be getting junk mail if you don't change them back. To change it, go to "my groups," then click on "Account Info," then there should be a place that says "edit marketing preferences." Change all the yes buttons to no and you should be set. Don't forget the ones at the very bottom or they will call and write you too! . . . and now back to your regularly scheduled program. Sorry for the interruption!
