There is no actual band video for Tight or Salavation Jane at this time, they are both studio cuts available on the compilations INXS are releasing in the USA, the UK, and in Australia. Tight is also being released as a limited edition single in Australia, and possibly the UK and US. Visual media of Hungry and Sugar (available on MP3 as well) are available on the INXS sites in Argentina. INXS have not even recorded the final studio cut for either Sugar or Hungry yet, that would be my guess. Anyway I guess it will be completely clear down the road won't it. Hey Nanci: You asked me to let you know if Bob performed "The Great Song of Indifference" - actually he opened with it and closed with an abbreviated version of it at the L.A. House of Blues. The song is even better performed live, a real high energy stunner. What a great show - Bob was in excellent form and the audience loved him. I saw him after and he was charming and looked handsome. He said his daughters are doing quite well and said to me, "gorgeous, aren't they?" Of course I could only agree and he was happy to take the credit to which I replied, "yeah, Bob I know, great genes...." He glossed over the tabloid traumas he's gone through over the last several years and did not get too specific - no names mentioned. He ended the show with one last song about his girlfriend Jeanne, which appears on the new cd. The way he tells it, she saved his life during what he describes as an impossible time. From what Bob has to say on the cd and in interviews, everyone suffered greatly throughout that situation. Bob looked happy and although he was quite hoarse following the show, was gracious to everyone who stopped by to say hello in the VIP room. I brought up some things from years of being a fan and he thanked me 'for the years' - although I felt I should be thanking him. By the way, interesting bit of Bob trivia, he was one of the people behind the first "Survivor" tv show in the UK - apparently his production company produced it. "Thanks a lot for that, Bob" I said (heavily on the irony - I hate those reality tv shows! ) and he answered - "I can't make any money doing this!" referring to his music....he is funny and intelligent, his stage banter was hilarious - all in all, a show worth seeing. As for the environment, well that's really beyond the scope of INXS topics. But I will say the song was written way back in 88 or thereabouts, and the environment and music about it was a much hotter topic. It's clear the band thought the song inappropriate for the X album, and I don't think lyrics are the only reason. Even though X is clearly an album where Michael and Andrew in a lyrical context thought they should be trying to say something far more worldly important than "I've got to let you know". There are hints of it on all INXS albums but none more so on X. The biggest problem with the lyrics is the counting in the verses as if mimicking the doomsday clock, however the lyrics and the music around don't create much tension, it would have been better for those lyrics to be given the Welcome to Wherever you are treatment, IE more like Taste It and other songs, where the music adds a sinister ambience and builds and intensifies until crescendo. The band on radio probably doesn't get much of it's stuff after 92 played, so I imagine there's a few people out there who don't know INXS are continuing as a band. Australia were originally supposed to get the US disc, but apparently INXS management or whoever changed their minds yet again, so Australia only gets two mixes and limited edition at that. Being released sometime after the album has been out, it looks like it's just for the fans who can't afford the album! Afterall the Australian album is simply pretty much all the singles ever released. As for airplay, considering the song has been remixed, I didn't really like the UKs version. My feelings aside, the band can probably expect more airplay than a Straight Line got, but no more than Elegantly Wasted. SJane as a single, yeah, that could seem a bit nostalgic though (heck what am I saying Elvis has the #1 album), even though these songs are only like 2 years apart, Salvation Jane carries that INXS sound that the critics love to dish on in the late 90/00s. Having said that the song was written in INXS' peak sales period and might just sway the attention of those millions who bought Kick and X, who stopped buying INXS after 1990. The record Co. always leaves one song on there as reason enough to buy the entire album of stuff you already have and I think Salvation Jane will carry that tag. So basically I think we're out of luck there. Kick Stefan wrote: >Hi everyone. ok, we`ll get another releases from our guys and that is great! Anybody else who wishes to make comments on the similarities of either album or whatever feel free to comment. I actually think the albums are very similar in some respects, LLT has a very live feel and like FMDH and EW the recording is more grittier. You also see the use of acoustic guitars more blatantly on both albums, INXS have always been a band who tended to plug in to an amp first, ask questions later..........one of the simpler ways of creating the energy they get out of each song. Listen Like Thieves was always considered the rehearsal to Kick by the band, but some critics argue it is their best album. I rate Kick above LLT but only by a notch.....EW I rate above both, maybe cause I simply haven't heard it 20 000 times like the Kick album. EW was a real rehearsal for a rejuvenated INXS, it had them experimenting in all sorts of different ways with different sounds. Why they bothered with the A-side to try and keep somewhat to within mainstream realms I don't know. It's probably the one let down about that record.....granted it may have been a bigger let down sales wise (700 000 global) but I would have cherished it well above all INXS records. Anyways with partial credence to track listing here is my "Elegant Thieves" album. What You Need Listen Like Thieves Elegantly Wasted Searching Don't Lose Your Head Girl On Fire Red Red Sun We are Thrown Together Shake The Tree (My favorite INXS tune) Let It Ride* Kiss the Dirt Same Direction * this was available on Japanese album release only Cheers, Kick From: "Fists of Fury Eric Reed" To: Sent: Friday, October 11, 2002 8:13 PM Subject: Re: INXS: Interesting Poll idea #3 Results --- Jimavfc@aol.com wrote: > How about this same type of Poll, and also using two extremely > differently produced albums, this time the albums, Listen Like > Thieves, and Elegantly Wasted? > > Good luck trying to pick 12 tracks and 12 that flow into each other. This mix obviously targeting a younger (non INXS inclined) audience in my opinion. The mix retains the INXS sound, however "Dan" did his best to make sure he was noticed, even adding his own vocals. There is some very good instrumentation, with the typical INXS bottom string funk. If anything, aside from Dans non INXS like vocals the track's energy might be just a tad overworked in the production. Certainly a worthwhile addition to an INXS Best Of. Thanks to Rhino for the opportunity to hear this track. I must say it is odd that I have heard the US version prior to the OZ one, patiently waiting for the "Years xxxx" release. Question 1 Hypothetical: The following bands do studio covers of the respective INXS songs. A. Rolling Stones - Tiny Daggers B. Pearl Jam - Days of Rust C. U2 - I'm Only Looking D. Oasis - Everything E. Bon Jovi - Taste It Order the covers in a manner of those that would most appeal to you down to the least (example:BDACE). Add any comments you feel relavent, including how well you think each band would do the song or if another song/artist might perhaps have suited better. Question 2 Nominate one of your top ten INXS songs, and than state which of the following element/s the song most reminds you of and add any comments on the reason why. A Air B Water C Fire D Earth My response: Question 1 BCAED B. Pearl Jam - Days of Rust These guys have got some ballistic material, I'd really like to see them do an INXS jaw breaker. C. U2 - I'm Only Looking I think U2 might do a reasonable job on this with the "Zooropa" electronica type production, definitely worth a listen. A. Rolling Stones - Tiny Daggers Although Mick Jagger might not have the same hook in the chorus as Mike, this song has always been compared with the RS. E. Bon Jovi - Taste It Jon Bon Jovi has been quoted as saying he really really liked the Welcome album, and their song Faith I think is an example of that, I believe it borrows "instinctively" from Taste It........however the Bon Jovi sound is not entirely suited to INXS music. D. Oasis - Everything Oasis can do anything Beatlesque but could they do INXS? They are not capable of producing the INXS sound but they could probably do a pretty good cover of Everything if they changed parts of the vocal melodies. Not something I would hang out for. Q2 Kiss the Dirt, to me this song combines all the elements except water with the simple strumming of F# through the verses and the ambient keyboards creating an earth and air partnership and than in the middle they add fire when the band max the amps up spectacularly. ciao for now, Kick cc inxs.com From: "Michael & Sherrianne Talon" To: Sent: Thursday, October 17, 2002 6:05 AM Subject: Re: INXS: Interesting Poll idea #4 Question 1 C. U2 - Loving U2 as I do, I would have to pick this first. I'm just not sure that Bono's voice would be complemented by this song although different is good and he could wrap it up and package as something almost original. A. Rolling Stones - Actually, I think Mick could nail this song for personality and mood. In fact, I think this one fits best. E. Bon Jovi - He could do it. It wouldn't have the maturity of INXS, but he could pull it off on a good night. I refuse to answer the other two, even though you are my husband, I just can't believe you put these ones on there. I realise PJ has a huge, huge following BUT.... his voice....... can't do it, nope, just can't do it, not even close, make the images go away, please......................... . And as for Oasis!!! Since some people plan to fly out for the party in Januray, it was asked of me to decide on a date soon so they could start planning their trip. As you know, Michael's Birthday (Januray 22nd) falls right in the middle of a week. It has been decided that the party will happen the Saturday before his Birthday on January 18th, so save the date! If you have any ideas or suggestions for this year's party, feel free to send them along, I am always open for suggestions :) Most likely, the party will happen again at Barramuni, the bar that has been happy to host the party twice before (last year and in 1999). They still talk about the 2 parties and are happy to have us again. More details to follow at a later date. Keep Michael's memory alive! Come have some fun to celebrate his life or host a party in your own area! :) ...Kris (with a K) From: "Gwen Hutchence" To: Sent: Saturday, October 26, 2002 11:37 AM Subject: INXS: new Bono stamp hey , I was wondering if anyone knows any information about how to order the new set of Irish heritage stamps that includes a bono stamp? thanks , gwen From: "Nanci Lamb Roider" To: Sent: Saturday, October 26, 2002 2:05 PM Subject: RE: INXS: new Bono stamp On Saturday, October 26, 2002, at 12:37 PM, Gwen Hutchence wrote: > hey , I was wondering if anyone knows any information about how to > order > the new set of Irish heritage stamps that includes a bono stamp? thanks > , gwen Try http://www.irishstamps.ie Nanci We thought we had all the answers; it was the questions we had wrong. --Bono From: "Leah Sungenis" To: ; Sent: Monday, October 28, 2002 1:12 PM Subject: INXS: Westwood One Show Hey, Did anybody tape this show, or even hear it? I think it's quite cool that INXS are part of this. another interesting note about this game is that you can actually purchase the soundtrack(s) in any music store (which is nice if you want to have the experience but don't care for video games). each radio station's contents are sold as a single CD, or you can purchase all 7 radio stations in a box set. I have to say that I nearly bounced off my chair while driving along the beach in my CRX and all of a sudden I heard that familiar intro of the acoustic guitar strumming away on the radio! dun dun dun... All the news programs are running segments on this game. It is graphically violent and I was stunned when I saw excerpts from this game on television this morning. The game features Police officers, pedestrians and and various civilians being shot and blood spewing everywhere. The only difference I see is that to me video games are aimed at kids directly (there the only one's I see trolling through the video game section), but as you say if the film has a basically 80's soundtrack than my guess is they are aiming at an audience roughly equivalent to our age group LOL. Maybe it's to appease the parents of the prementioned children, we are much happier for them to slaughter some pesky pedestrian pixel on a monitor provided they are listening to the right music aye? LOL (It's a trade off). Your second point, yeah, that is odd, both are great "driving" tunes, but What You Need is the chart topper..........maybe the lyrics of Kiss the Dirt seemed more appropriate to the producers of the video game or maybe because Kiss the Dirt. I would have put Kiss the Dirt in the video game simply because of the crescendo in the middle. The titles and some of the lyrics of the songs may suggest some sort of event/s in the video games. IE "I ran" (from the vehicle) (I failed and) "Kissed the dirt" LOL Sarcasm and violence run hand in hand in the Hollywood and the "Microsoft and the rest" industry. I guess we shall see. I would have to say it's much tamer than most R rated films. there is no graphic sex (although it is implied), no nudity, and the bad language is quite tame (no F words). the violence is cartoonish and, in my opinion, not nearly as disturbing as movie violence. now, whether or not retailers enforce the rating system by not allowing underage kids to purchase it is another matter. it's just the same as movie theaters letting underage kids buy tickets to R rated films. unfortunately, it happens. as far as the lyrics of kiss the dirt having anything to do with the game, I would discount that theory judging by the other songs. it seems songs were chosen mostly based on popularity. in any case, I'm still amazed that INXS have found their way into yet another avenue of media (I'm not counting their "make my video" game back in the early 90s!)
