U2 frontman Bono has been a strong supporter of the campaign, and since U2 and INXS have been friends for a long time, we've decided to ask INXS fans to help. The auction started July 4th - Independence Day in the U.S. - and will run through the end of the year (or longer, if we have enough items). We are looking for INXS fans who are willing to donate band memorabilia or other items to the auction. Items must be sent to one of the organizers in order to be included in the auction (our mailing addresses are below). If you live in North, Central or South America, please send your item(s) to Abbey Fisher. If you live in Europe or the Rest of the World, please send your item(s) to Sascha Wehinger. Be sure to include an item description. You will receive a receipt/thank you letter for the total amount of the winning bid, plus cost of shipping the item to us (in U.S. dollars) for tax purposes. If you do not wish to send your item to us, you may still post the item on your own Ebay auction, and mention that proceeds will go to Jubilee USA Network, however you will not be permitted to participate in the official auction for liability purposes. Almost any item is allowed, except bootlegs, which we will not sell out of respect for the general rules of bootleg trading. If you have items from other celebrities who support Jubilee and related causes, like David Bowie, Coldplay, Radiohead, Perry Farrell/Jane's Addiction, Martin Sheen, or the Prodigy, or have contact information for their management so we can contact them, please let us know. Any help is greatly appreciated! Jubilee USA Network is the continuation of the Jubilee 2000 movement in the United States. Over 60 religious, labor, environmental, HIV/AIDS and peace and justice organizations are Network members and we have made great progress toward our goal of canceling the debts of the world's poorest countries so they can use those resources to provide healthcare, education and basic services for their people. However, there is much more work to be done, and we need financial support to keep the campaign alive. Jubilee USA has experienced a lack of funding due to a decrease in grants from foundations and contributions from individuals, partly due to the uncertain U.S. economy. Jubilee USA has an Ebay homepage which you can view at http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/jubileeusa. All proceeds from the auction will go to the Jubilee USA Network national office, and will be used for educational materials, our new Jubilee Congregations campaign, research, general administrative costs and grants to local Jubilee groups. For more information about the Jubilee USA campaign and to donate online, please visit http://www.jubileeusa.org. For additional information about the auction, please do not hesitate to contact one of us. The goal is Elevation, Abbey Fisher Jubilee York, PA Chapter 712 Priority Rd. The governments who borrowed the money are corrupt and need to be overthrown. If they get debt reduction they will stay in power and start borrowing money again. Sending a message that you can borrow and won't have to repay will only hurt the regular man and woman who are suffering under these governments, because the regular man and woman will continue to be squeezed. My advice: Don't learn politics from musicians. They rarely have the vaguest notion of what they are doing or talking about. Bono is a spectacular example. If he'd take a course in Economics 101 he would realize what a terrible mistake he is making. cheers, Leah PS-Yes, I've studied economics. Remember that it is the country that owes the debt, not the government. How do propose that the legitimate, non-corrupt government of a third world country pay off a debt created by their oppressors? 2) Many third world debts can be legitimately explained by a rise in interest rates combined with a decline in the need for exports from that country. Your arguement is completely invalid for these circumstances. > PS-Yes, I've studied economics. Yes, but its obvious that you never studied any humanities. Just looking for folks to donate items to an auction. If you don't support it, I probably can't change your mind over email, as this is an INXS list, not a politics list, so I'm sorry I posted at all. But I'm also contacting the band to see if they can donate anything. If they do, I'll let you know.
