INXS List Information
INXS List

1998 inxslist@digitalcastle.com
Current manager: Nanci Lamb Roider (nanci@digitalcastle.com)
Important INXS List Rules and Regulations:
- Be Nice. Please take other people's feelings into consideration
when composing a message. Should you take offense by what a
person says in response to one of your posts, please contact
that person VIA E-MAIL (NOT the mailing list) and explain why
you w ere offended. In all probability, the post was not meant
to be offensive and an apology will promptly follow. HOWEVER,
if the person continues in an inappropriate manner, contact
me and send all copies of the offensive messages with your complaint.
Shoul d the messages be that bad, I will remove the offending
party from the list. I've never had to do this, nor do I plan
to, but I will warn everyone that I am prepared to do this,
should the need arise. In other words, THE MAILING LIST IS NOT
A FORUM FOR PUBLIC AIRING OF DIFFERENCES.
- Language Anyone has access to this list, young & old alike.
Rule of thumb, if you wouldn't say it to Grandma, don't say
it here. Anything beyond damn or %$#&^ is inappropriate. And
while we're on the subject of language, please use proper grammar
an d spelling whenever possible. There are many of us here who
value the English language a great deal, and appreciate seeing
it used properly. No one finds willful misspellings or bad sentence
structure cute or endearing.
- Subject Matter This is the INXS mailing list - Please keep
the discussion to INXS or other related subject matter. If it's
fairly INXS related - i.e.. "do you think we could force some
film company to re-release "Dogs in Space" in the theaters?"
or "wh at sort of wine were they serving backstage in St. Louis?"
or "Does anyone want to buy my old INXS stuff?" - that's o.k.
until there are complaints to the contrary.
Mailing List Etiquette
- Know Who You're Dealing With: It is a good idea to *listen
in* for awhile before posting messages to a mailing list you
are not familiar with. Remember, "It's better to lurk than look
like a jerk."
- Quoting In Your Replies: It's pretty tiring to have to read
through 5 paragraphs you've already seen to finally read someone's
one line response. Please keep your quotes to a minimum. You
don't have to quote someone's entire letter to answer it. Take
the first line - or the most significant. Things are pretty
day to day - everyone will remember what was said.
- One Liners: One liners are pretty annoying for everyone, especially
when they get a string of 6 or 7 of them. Everyone needs to
contribute to the conversation - that's what keeps the list
fun - but don't post if all you have to say is *I agree* or
*cool.* Make sure that you are giving as much to the conversation
as the person you're replying to.
- Flame Wars: Everyone on the list should feel comfortable about
being here. If you don't like something that someone says you
can disagree - just don't call them an ignorant pig first and
don't attack the person for having an opinion in the first place.
Stating opinions and viewpoints is what this list is about but
please try to remember that these are real people you are talking
with - feelings and all. Flame wars can get pretty bad if they
get out of hand. IT TAKES TWO TO START A FLAME, DON'T BE ONE
OF THEM.
- Vacations Or Changing Your Email Address If you are leaving
on vacation, switching ISPs or leaving the Internet altogether,
PLEASE unsubscribe from the INXS List. This will save time and
headaches dealing with your bounced mail. If you are unsure
how to unsubscribe, please ask me. I can be reached at: nanci@digitalcastle.com
General Information
The INXS List is an electronic mailing list existing
to facilitate discussion and dissemination of information about
the Australian band, INXS. The list was conceptualized by Neil
Kothari, was maintained until December 1997 by Jason Braddy, a
student at Iowa State University, and is now maintained by Nanci
Lamb Roider. The list is an open forum discussion on INXS. Topics
range from the albums and songs themselves, to the members of
the band, their side projects, the price of memorabilia and the
occasio nal INXS List gatherings that take place around the world.
This is a closed list - meaning that subscriptions must be approved
by the List Owner before being added. This is to ensure that your
email address is working properly. This is not a monitored lis
t - meaning that there is no one who actively guides the discussion
and handles conflicts between the members, but I am watching,
and reserve the right to remove any member who is repeatedly abusive.
Further, there are various "list gods" lurking out the re who
are not afraid to put someone (privately) in their place, should
they step out of line (thanks guys!). The messages posted to the
list are not censored or previewed in any way by the list owner.
All messages that appear are currently archived,
and can be found on this site
(scroll down to list archives). If you do not wish your posts
to appear on this page - do not post to the list. At the present
time, the INXS List does not offer a digest format.
Be advised that your disk quota is your responsibility...if
mail starts bouncing off of your account, I have no choice but
to take you off of the list temporarily and wait for you to get
back to me when the problem is resolved.
Where To Get Information Or Help
The INXS List does not have a Home Page at present,
all information about it can be found on this site. Please refer
to his page, or contact me for information or help.
If you are having problems with the content of
the INXS List, another member of the INXS List, have suggestions,
or questions on subscribing, unsubscribing or sending messages
to the INXS List, contact me at nanci@digitalcastle.com.
How To Use The Mailing List
Send all list postings to inxs@topica.com
Send only messages to the list. DO NOT send subscribe or unsubscribe
requests. If you are replying to someone else's post, please try
to keep the same subject in order that we know what you are referring
to.
Subscribe to the INXS Mailing List.
Disclaimer:
The INXS List is not a commercial enterprise.
While the band does know of our existence, we in no way represent
them, nor do they assume any responsibility for the content of
this list. Responsibility for the content is strictly that of
the poster. I reserve the right to limit access to anyone at my
discretion. Now, I probably sound like I'm a bit uptight, but
that's actually not the case. I have to address all the possible
problems, just to be clear, but very seldom do I have to interve
ne on the list in any way. The primary goal is to allow people
to exchange ideas, opinions, and information -- the rules are
only there as guidelines to make sure that function isn't impeded.
Thank you for reading to the end. Your cooperation will make the
INXS List a nice place to be.
