Hutchence's fortune from big to small

THE family of Michael Hutchence believed he was worth more than $10 million when he died in November 1997.

But the final distribution accounts for the estate of the 37-year-old rock star reveal he had only about $60,000 to show for his years at the top of the music world.

And his family will see none of that.

Hutchence's will - dated October 1996 - allocated half his wealth to his daughter, Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily, at age 25, and equal shares to his mother, father, half-sister, brother, and lover Paula Yates.

But the first $1 million realised from the estate had to be split between Greenpeace and Amnesty International.

In a March 4 letter to beneficiaries, lawyers for executor Mr Andrew Paul wrote that all matters had been finalised except for the sale of three guitars and oil paintings worth about $20,000 held in a safety deposit box at a Monaco bank.

Hutchence's mother Patricia Glassop said yesterday: "Would anyone seriously believe that Michael did not want to leave anything to his family, including Tiger?

"He drove an Aston Martin, his personal effects were stored in homes around the world . . . yet we are supposed to believe he owned none of these things."
