March

HAPPY 38TH
BIRTHDAY TO ANDREW FARRISS!
Rolling Stone
this week has a feature on the movies that musicians like the most. Michael
Hutchence chose A Streetcar Named Desire Directed by Elia Kazan
(1951). He writes, "I was just watching it in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
You can hardly understand what Brando's saying. I tried to be unhyped
about it, but he sucked me in. He was quite slim then, wasn't he? A bit
of a bod."

The latest
radio airplay figures for Elegantly Wasted in the US are outstanding!
The song is in the top 40 on a whole bunch of radio charts, including
two top ten showings in the AAA format. Plus, all of these chart numbers
were bulleted, which means that there was a significant move. BDS, the
company that detects when songs are played on the radio, reported tons
of plays at all formats. Check this out: the song was played 1,166 times
on Modern Rock stations in the past week! Also, the video has now been
added to MTV in Active rotation. Start those requests now - let's bump
that baby up to a higher rotation! MTV's email address is feedback@mtv.com.
The rotation on VH-1 has been increased to Large, so you should be able
to see it more easily now. Finally, for those with the Box, selection
number is 565.

the LA and Chicago shows sold out as expected soon after going on sale
today. (NYC sold out two days ago in about 10 minutes.)

An insightful

March
2, 1997:
NME had a
brief mention of INXS this week: "...We must relate a hair-raising tale
of near death involving those lovely INXS lads. Our Colorado correspondent
reports that, during a gig in an old opera house in Aspen - their first
gig in three years - the audience were so frenzied that the floor almost
collapsed into the offices of VH1 on the floor below! It was only the
desperate efforts of the terrified VH1 staff in building impromptu supports
out of tables/chairs/filing cabinets that prevented the gig finishing
a storey lower than it started..."
March
1, 1997:
The band
performs tonight in London for Radio 1 and Comic Relief.

for Elegantly Wasted today, and will play it again on next week's
program, which is two days before the single is released in the UK.
March 5 is
being designated as "INXS Day" at Virgin Radio. The station will play
INXS tracks throughout the day, and then starting at 5PM GMT, the band
