March 1997

March 27, 1997:

HAPPY 38TH BIRTHDAY TO ANDREW FARRISS!

Rolling Stone this week has a feature on the movies that musicians like the most. Michael Hutchence chose A Streetcar Named Desire Directed by Elia Kazan (1951). He writes, "I was just watching it in Buenos Aires, Argentina. You can hardly understand what Brando's saying. I tried to be unhyped about it, but he sucked me in. He was quite slim then, wasn't he? A bit of a bod."

March 26, 1997:

The latest radio airplay figures for Elegantly Wasted in the US are outstanding! The song is in the top 40 on a whole bunch of radio charts, including two top ten showings in the AAA format. Plus, all of these chart numbers were bulleted, which means that there was a significant move. BDS, the company that detects when songs are played on the radio, reported tons of plays at all formats. Check this out: the song was played 1,166 times on Modern Rock stations in the past week! Also, the video has now been added to MTV in Active rotation. Start those requests now - let's bump that baby up to a higher rotation! MTV's email address is feedback@mtv.com. The rotation on VH-1 has been increased to Large, so you should be able to see it more easily now. Finally, for those with the Box, selection number is 565.

March 22, 1997:

Tickets for the LA and Chicago shows sold out as expected soon after going on sale today. (NYC sold out two days ago in about 10 minutes.)

March 20, 1997:

Updated Tour Dates! Check out Tour Information for the important details! Hopefully, there won't be any more rescheduling -- just more added shows! :)

An insightful feature on human rights issues appears in Alternative Press as an interview with Michael Hutchence. Well worth reading.

The latest statistics: The song was #1 Most Added at Adult Top 40, #3 Most Added at AAA and Rock, #4 Most Added at Modern Rock and #1 Most Increased Airplay at Top 40, AAA and Modern Rock. Keep requesting the single on your favorite local radio station -- that's the key to success!

March 2, 1997:

NME had a brief mention of INXS this week: "...We must relate a hair-raising tale of near death involving those lovely INXS lads. Our Colorado correspondent reports that, during a gig in an old opera house in Aspen - their first gig in three years - the audience were so frenzied that the floor almost collapsed into the offices of VH1 on the floor below! It was only the desperate efforts of the terrified VH1 staff in building impromptu supports out of tables/chairs/filing cabinets that prevented the gig finishing a storey lower than it started..."

March 1, 1997:

The band performs tonight in London for Radio 1 and Comic Relief.

The VH-1 show aired for the first time last night. The set list is New Sensation, Elegantly Wasted, Listen Like Thieves, Devil Inside, Need You Tonight, Never Tear Us Apart, Everything I Do, What You Need, Searching, and Don't Change.

The Chart Show (the UK's most popular music promo video program) debuted the video for Elegantly Wasted today, and will play it again on next week's program, which is two days before the single is released in the UK.

March 5 is being designated as "INXS Day" at Virgin Radio. The station will play INXS tracks throughout the day, and then starting at 5PM GMT, the band will perform LIVE unplugged songs on the air.

Finally, Michael Hutchence is appearing on the Virgin Breakfast show (7 am - 10 am GMT) sometime next week (March 3 - March 7). It's safe to assume he'll appear on March 5, "INXS Day" at Virgin.
